First up, I'll hopefully be sending out christmas cards next weekend, so if you want one, now's your last chance to let me know!

I've been busy with #ITPE and the JLPT lately, but I really wanted to write a follow-up post to my initial impressions of the Fall Anime season, so here goes.

Fall Anime )

Not all that much left, really. However, I've been watching other things lately (How to get away with murder, amazing; The Hundred, really cool and really making me want to read het fic???; Shameless is coming back soon, the promos have been killing me; Still have to catch up on Mushishi; only one more month until Durarara, aw yeah) and I've been playing, like, 5 games simultaneously (Let's see, Fire Emblem Awakening, Ace Attorney Dual Destinies, Ace Attorney vs. Professor Layton, Persona Q, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy Theatrythm, if you wanna count that. So...7. Not counting the other unfinished RPGs I'm taking a break from. <.<''').

*deep breath* So yeah. I'm keeping busy.

Fall Anime

Internets, I am sad. Why? Because the 2014 summer season of anime is over, and with it all my new anime loves - Barakamon*, Haikyuu!!, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - and some older ones - HunterxHunter, Free - have ended. Normally I'd wait for tumblr to suck me into new shows like it usually does, but this time around I was actually impatient enough to check the schedule and promos of the fall season, which started last week. I decided to give a few of them a try, so here's my initial thoughts after seeing the first episodes.

* Did I ever mention Barakamon? I thought I must have, but looking back over all the posts I wrote during my free month I can't seem to find it...In any case, Barakamon is lovely, please watch it.

Previously on Chrisi's Eternal Summer / Who's That Seiyuu / Did You Know I Have A Lot Of Feelings About Anime / this series of write-ups I did:

Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6

Like I already said, writing these posts regularly was super fun and actually much easier than I'd anticipated. I'm thinking about how best to keep doing these - now that I'm back at work I really won't be able to watch so many things, obviously, but maybe I can write one post a month or so.

For now I thought I'd pick the new-to-me things I liked best and that I'd most recommend. (Keeping it short because, well, I already wrote about them.)

1. In The Flesh (week 1), definitely! My new life goal is to make everyone I know watch this show because it's amazing and really, really special. Hands down among the top shows I've ever seen, it deserves all the awards.

2. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (weeks 2 and 4). I'd go with the anime over the manga, though both are very good. I just prefer the episode format over the four panel strips. Hilarious beyond belief, never mean-spirited, with a great cast of characters. I love every single one of them. Perfect for when you just want to feel good and laugh for 20 minutes straight. (ongoing series)

3. Haikyuu!! (weeks 1 and 6) I JUST REALLY LOVE THIS ANIME, OKAY? I keep squeeing about it on twitter because it gives so much joy. It avoids a lot of the things that can make other sports anime seem silly, it usually makes me laugh for half the episode and then cry from being overwhelmed with (super positive!) feelings the other half. Emotional investment level at 110%. (ongoing series)

4. Saving Face (week 5). HELLA CUTE. Also code-switching. We all need more happy LGBT movies in our lives, don't we?

Aside from watching/reading a bajillion shows and movies and manga I also had plans to do some other things.

life stuff )

Finally, I also wanted to mention some other stuff going on in my life at the moment. more life stuff )

This post is late because I had a very busy weekend full of various people's birthday celebrations, and yesterday I went to see The Cat Empire for the first time in years, so I didn't have time.  And when I finally sat down to  write, I accidentally deleted my half-finished post, sob. /o\ I can't make myself type everything again, so forgive me if this write-up is a bit shorter than usual.

Revisiting:

The Cat Empire )

The Unlimited - Hyoubu Kyousuke )

Reine Geschmackssache )

Digimon Adventure )

HunterxHunter (SPOILERS!) )

There's only one week left now before I have to go back to work, sadly. Doing these posts was super fun, maybe I'll find a way to continue them somehow.

Oh, and this is very off topic, but did you know that you can view the Japanese amazon in English? Because I just found out about that, so if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy all the Japanese One Piece logs immediately.

Week 2

Belated post is belated because I didn't have time on Sunday and straight up forgot yesterday. Why didn't I have time, you ask? I was busy watching the world cup final, duh. And speaking of which: WELTMEISTEEEEEEEEEER!!!  world cup stuff )

Anyway. There's actually not that much to talk about, since I spent most of last week on a trip to Hamburg with my parents, which was fun. But also exhausting, dear god, my feet. In the remaining days I didn't revisit anything, so let's jump right into the new stuff:

Kuragehime / Jellyfish Princess )

Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler )

Next up, another section. Because I keep wanting to talk about my regular shows that don't meet the criteria I initially had for these recaps.

Ongoing stuff:

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun )

HunterxHunter )

Hello there, Internets! How's it going? Guess who's (almost) done with Uni? :DDDD Final exams are over, and as long as I didn't fail horribly, all that's left is the oral exam in September and then I'll get my Bachelor of Laws! Hopefully. <.<

While I wait for the results, I have the entirety of July off from work/classes, and aside from editing podfic and exercising, I want to use all this free time to watch A LL OF THE MOVIES and ALL OF THE TV SHOWS and read ALL OF THE MANGA. I made a list and everything. And then I figured, hey, might as well write up some of the stuff I do. So here it is, week 1 of the stuff I watched! (More like 1 and a half weeks, really.) (Whatever.) (Also I contemplated naming this series of posts 'Eternal Summer' b/c Free!, but in the end I didn't.) (Y'all should appreciate my restraint.) (Hah.)

First up, things I ended up revisiting.

Kingdom Hearts )

Baccano )

Sword of the Stranger - Soundtrack )

On to the new-to-me stuff!

In the Flesh <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 )

The Raid )

Pacific Rim )

Haikyuu!! <3 )

Drama CDs - xxxholic, Weiss kreuz, Project K etc. )

I am writing this post in between studying because surprisingly, I do need a break from stretching the limits of my short-time memory from time to time, and also because I've been meaning to do another anime write up for a while now.

I'm taking a break from One Piece and Fairy Tail until they've finished their current arcs so I can watch them in one go, but as always, I follow a few shows as they air.

Alas, here I am again, in an...okay dorm room in my University town. Classes start tomorrow, so technically I could use the remaining hours to read up on everything I've forgotten. ...Yeah, no. :P

Sadly, this is a rather old dorm without Internet access, so I now have a fancy mobile Internet stick - let's see how long it takes me to reach the limit, shall we? Keeping up with my shows has been relegated to the weekends, though.
Speaking of shows, I went ahead and watched 2 anime series in my last few days of freedom at home, both of which were really cool:

- Tsuritama:  Fishing! I have no right to have feelings about fishing, but this series gave me a LOT of them. Or maybe those were just my feelings for the characters, IDK. I had to skip quite some bits of the first few episodes because of my embarrassment squick, but the story and animation were interesting enough that I stuck around. It really feels longer than 12 episodes, in a good way. There's a lot happening, but I thought the pace was perfect.

- Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit: I was made aware of this series by an actualfax ad on TV. The premise immediately reminded me of Sword of the Stranger, which is pretty much my favourite anime movie, so I decided to check it out. And then watched it over the course of two days. Which I shoul've spent packing. Oops.
Anyway, the premise is kinda the same, but Moribito has the advantage of being a 25 episode long series and having a kick-ass female protagonist. Seriously, Balsa is the best. Think Korra, but older and more serious. There are supernatural elements and martial arts and a light sprinkling of court politics, making for an altogether awesome show. I wasn't able to stop watching until I was at the end.

I meant for my next post to be a Chihayafuru pimp post, because I still think it's a thing of beauty and everyone should watch it and then come squee with me. That will have to wait for now, though, because I'm currently busy with WORK and TRAINING and BEING AN ADULT (well, kind of) and when I get home I just flop down on the couch and play video games/try to keep up with the Internet. And sometimes I buy giant, over-priced Anime merchandise, just because I can. No regrets!

I did go and see The Avengers on the 27th, though, and it gave me a lot of feelings (understatement). I had the most amazing viewing experience - the cinema was packed and everyone was laughing and enjoying the hell out of the movie. I was really surprised by just how funny it was, but hey, Joss Whedon, maybe should've expected that. I loved the attention given to all of the characters and I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED, the way they portrayed Black Widow. Dear god, I still have all of the Natasha feelings. <3 I hope they hurry up and make that Black Widow movie already. And also the next Avengers movie, because I want to see it ASAP. :D I just wish I could've seen it with fellow fangirls, that would've made the experience even better. Alas, fate still hasn't led me to any local fangirls. :(

I have, however, met a lovely lady through my JKD training who used to study at my university. We geeked out over our respective fields of study and how awesome uni/work is. Seeing as people usually react...not so enthusiastically when I tell them what I do, this was really refreshing. <3 And hey, actually managing social interaction like a not-awkward person FTW!

Back to fannish things: Aside from watching my regular shows (The Legend of Korra, Community, One Piece, and HunterxHunter) I've been mainlining Fairy Tail. I used to watch it back in the day and I've had a blast catching up to the newer episodes. Fairy Tail has a rather large cast of characters, but it knows how to use them. Like One Piece, it's one of those Anime that give you a feeling of family (NAKAMA~), if that makes any sense to anyone who's not me. <.<'''
It's making me cry a lot from an abundance of glorious feelings, and the more an Anime makes me cry the more I like it, apparently. Which is why most of my tweets on my Anime Sundays are me saying how much I'm crying right now. Sorry about that, people who follow me on twitter. ;D

As for video games, I'm continuing my usual circle of buying new games while still playing other games. I think I'm currently playing 3 RPGs simultaneously, 4 if you count occasional replays of Kingdom Hearts 2. ^^'' Oh well, at least I finally finished Persona 4. I'm probably half-way through Persona 3 and not quite as far with the first Kingdom Hearts, which I once played...IDK, 7 years ago, but never owned. Another game I already played when I was younger is Shadow Hearts Covenant, which I started playing over the long 1st of May weekend. After putting in about 40 hours I'm finished with the first of two discs by now, which is kind of crazy when you think about the fact that I've only had this game for a bit over a week. <.<''' Oh well. They're wonderful games, all of them. I should probably finish them before I get around to buying a PS3. (Which I'm only getting because I want to play the upcoming Persona Arena fighting game. I'm so weak. So, so weak.)

I wanted to post a photo of my new giant stuffed toy Chopper, but that will have to wait as well - I have to go to bed soon and still haven't seen today's One Piece (le gasp!).

Good night! <3
the24thkey: (One Piece)
Sunday, aside from being oh-god-I-have-to-drive-one-and-a-half-hours-back-to-the-dorms-whyyyyy day, is also my Anime day. Yay! Both the new One Piece and HunterxHunter episodes go live then, so I usually put off packing my bags for a while longer to watch them.

I gush about One Piece often enough, so it's probably pretty obvious that it's my favourite Anime. I started buying OP merchandise lately and after looking through the list of available (as in, available to me) action figures I want ALL OF THEM. If only they weren't so expensive. >.<

I especially love this one - a plush Chopper! And it turns into a pillow! (...wtf?) One day it shall be mine, no matter how ridiculously expensive it is.

HunterxHunter is a remake of an older Anime that was based on a Manga that I used to read a few years back. It's about as classically shounen as it gets - in a good way. However, someone recently remarked that, for a shounen series, it moves along quite fast, and after reading that I realized that yeah, it does. It doesn't rely much on padding or endless reaction shots like some other shows I could mention. <.< Yay for good trends in Anime!

Speaking of good trends in Anime, Chihayafuru is still rocking my life by being the best thing since Baccano. I'm also currently trying to get into Hikaru no Go (again), which isn't going quite as well as planned...

Anyway. Seeing as I've finally found the USB cable for my phone, I can post some pictures of the gyoza I made last week! I made it ridiculously hard for myself (and my Mum, who helped me out), by insisting on making the dough myself, so I ended up spending 2 hours in the kitchen...Totally worth it, though! :D

Photos! )

Have a good week, Internets! <3

So~ everyone else had a nice breakdown with a side of sobbing while watching the finale of Sherlock last night? If those people don't get ALL OF THE AWARDS I will be honestly surprised. <.<

Right then, first up, my thoughts on the second season of BBC's Sherlock! Spoilers ahead!
This is most definitely the squee you're looking for! )

So, in conclusion, this episode reduced me to a sobbing, incoherent mess, but in a good way! :D I can't wait to see what they come up with next season and I really can't wait to read all the fics that fandom is now hopefully working on.

Next up, The Killing, which I watched with my parents over christmas. It was an amazing viewing experience, and nobody should go into this spoiled. My parents, I should add, are the kind of reasonable people who don't do movie/tv marathons very often, but we watched as many episodes a day as we possibly could. Those cliffhangers are pure evil and only get more and more gripping the more the show progresses. The characters are incredibly well-written and especially the scenes with the family are heartbreaking. HoweverSpoiler! )

So, I definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Just make sure you have a lot of free time. <.<

Another show I started watching lately is the Anime Chihayafuru, a shoujo/sports Anime about an old japanese card game called karuta. At first, it sounded like something I wouldn't want to watch, but I was bored and I heard it was very good. Now I'm really glad I gave it a chance, because it really is amazing. The characters and their relationships are wonderfully written (Predictably, at least half of the episodes made me cry already) and the animation is beautiful. I still expect to be disappointed by the outcome of the typical love triangle, because I have never once rooted for the 'right' guy, but there is some hope left in me. Maybe this Anime will finally change it up.

*sigh* I tried posting a new entry, but apparently lj hates me. So I'll just give you a short rundown of what I wanted to post and elaborate on it later. Maybe.

- I got my braces removed! Finally! It's a bit weird, because I'm not used to the sight of my teeth.

- I bought a proper Sherlock coat! Except it's nothing like Sherlock's coat. At all. But it's pretty and I love it to death.

- I'm going to Japan after all! We'll be visiting Osaka (home of my darling Heiji Hattori, my first fictional crush back when I was like, ten), Kyoto, Kurashiki, Tokyo and Hirosaki. If anyone wants a postcard, contact me. (Except you, [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski. You're getting a postcard whether you like it or not. Muahahahahahaha~ XD)

- Ao no Exorcist is officially my favourite new Anime. I even prefer it over Tiger&Bunny at this point (I disliked that time skip, T&B. I really did.). It has a really interesting way of handling some old shonen clichés and I utterly adore it for that.

- Still haven't seen XMFC, but that doesn't stop me from following the insanely awesome Inception AU. OBVIOUSLY.

- Tonight I'm going to see Bridesmaids with a friend though. Yaaaay. :)

See ya! <3

1. The women's football world cup has started! And while yesterday's game against Nigeria was...not very good, over all it's been quite amazing! It's great to see so many people in the stadiums and to hear so many people talking about women's football. You go, girls! Go get that third star! \^o^/

2.I watched Tiger&Bunny and it A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Not only does it have great animation and characters - it also has great dramatic storylines and is quite funny. Surprisingly enough, it doesn't even trigger my embarrassment squick. This Anime has something for everyone! Superheroes, mecha (kinda), buddy cop show dynamics, slashy relationships...there are only 13 episodes so far and I can't wait for more! <3 Also, Kotetsu really does look like Godot from Ace Attorney, doesn't he? Huh.

3. I have also watched Baccano! again. Sheesh, I forgot quite how much blood and gore there is. Still one of my favourite Anime though. <3

4. Thatguywiththeglasses.com has started releasing the 3rd anniversary videos! So far, Suburban Knights has been hilarious! The whole playground scene? Amazingly funny. I love that they all dressed up and I love that my favourite - Todd In the Shadows <3 - is in it. ALSO! In today's video there was a surprise appearance by someone who I've missed so much on the site! Welcome back!

5. Todd in the Shadows and The Nostalgia Chick are a rl item? How did I not know about this? That is so adorable! <3

6. I'll be in the hospital at the end of next week to get those damn metal plates out of my face - finally I shall be free from that annoying meteorosensitivity!

7. In case you ever wondered, the German word for 'meteorosensitivity' is 'Wetterfühligkeit'. The more you know.

Have a good one! <3
