First up, I'll hopefully be sending out christmas cards next weekend, so if you want one, now's your last chance to let me know!

I've been busy with #ITPE and the JLPT lately, but I really wanted to write a follow-up post to my initial impressions of the Fall Anime season, so here goes.

Fall Anime )

Not all that much left, really. However, I've been watching other things lately (How to get away with murder, amazing; The Hundred, really cool and really making me want to read het fic???; Shameless is coming back soon, the promos have been killing me; Still have to catch up on Mushishi; only one more month until Durarara, aw yeah) and I've been playing, like, 5 games simultaneously (Let's see, Fire Emblem Awakening, Ace Attorney Dual Destinies, Ace Attorney vs. Professor Layton, Persona Q, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy Theatrythm, if you wanna count that. So...7. Not counting the other unfinished RPGs I'm taking a break from. <.<''').

*deep breath* So yeah. I'm keeping busy.

Previously on Chrisi's Eternal Summer / Who's That Seiyuu / Did You Know I Have A Lot Of Feelings About Anime / this series of write-ups I did:

Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6

Like I already said, writing these posts regularly was super fun and actually much easier than I'd anticipated. I'm thinking about how best to keep doing these - now that I'm back at work I really won't be able to watch so many things, obviously, but maybe I can write one post a month or so.

For now I thought I'd pick the new-to-me things I liked best and that I'd most recommend. (Keeping it short because, well, I already wrote about them.)

1. In The Flesh (week 1), definitely! My new life goal is to make everyone I know watch this show because it's amazing and really, really special. Hands down among the top shows I've ever seen, it deserves all the awards.

2. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (weeks 2 and 4). I'd go with the anime over the manga, though both are very good. I just prefer the episode format over the four panel strips. Hilarious beyond belief, never mean-spirited, with a great cast of characters. I love every single one of them. Perfect for when you just want to feel good and laugh for 20 minutes straight. (ongoing series)

3. Haikyuu!! (weeks 1 and 6) I JUST REALLY LOVE THIS ANIME, OKAY? I keep squeeing about it on twitter because it gives so much joy. It avoids a lot of the things that can make other sports anime seem silly, it usually makes me laugh for half the episode and then cry from being overwhelmed with (super positive!) feelings the other half. Emotional investment level at 110%. (ongoing series)

4. Saving Face (week 5). HELLA CUTE. Also code-switching. We all need more happy LGBT movies in our lives, don't we?

Aside from watching/reading a bajillion shows and movies and manga I also had plans to do some other things.

life stuff )

Finally, I also wanted to mention some other stuff going on in my life at the moment. more life stuff )

Hello there, Internets! How's it going? Guess who's (almost) done with Uni? :DDDD Final exams are over, and as long as I didn't fail horribly, all that's left is the oral exam in September and then I'll get my Bachelor of Laws! Hopefully. <.<

While I wait for the results, I have the entirety of July off from work/classes, and aside from editing podfic and exercising, I want to use all this free time to watch A LL OF THE MOVIES and ALL OF THE TV SHOWS and read ALL OF THE MANGA. I made a list and everything. And then I figured, hey, might as well write up some of the stuff I do. So here it is, week 1 of the stuff I watched! (More like 1 and a half weeks, really.) (Whatever.) (Also I contemplated naming this series of posts 'Eternal Summer' b/c Free!, but in the end I didn't.) (Y'all should appreciate my restraint.) (Hah.)

First up, things I ended up revisiting.

Kingdom Hearts )

Baccano )

Sword of the Stranger - Soundtrack )

On to the new-to-me stuff!

In the Flesh <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 )

The Raid )

Pacific Rim )

Haikyuu!! <3 )

Drama CDs - xxxholic, Weiss kreuz, Project K etc. )

Hello ladies! It's been a while. Since I use twitter (and now my new tumblr, le sigh) to keep the Internets updated on my life, I don't really feel the need to update my lj/dw unless I'm putting out a new podfic, but I do kinda miss it, so.

- I've just had a two week break from Uni, during which I have done...uh...not a whole lot. Part of that was due to an inflammation in my right wrist (which is mostly gone now, thank god) but mostly it was me being lazy, let's be honest here. I did go shopping though! Excitement!

I came across some pretty interesting articles on body shapes and how to dress them recently. The advice for my body shape basically came down to 'Skirts are your friends!', which suits me just fine. I've been buying more and more skirts already and just changing my wardrobe in general. I haven't always felt all that comfortable in my clothes over the last few years, and I think this change will help me feel more comfortable in my body, too. Yay!

Also on the agenda: bra shopping. Shopping for well-fitting bras is haaaaard. \o\ It's not like I need a large or unusual size, but it seems like the shape I need isn't a common one. :/ And proper sports bras are expensive. \o\

- I started doing my nails in an effort to stop myself from chewing them up and it's been working wonders. In fact, it's been going so well that I now own a rather excessive amount of nail polishes and have been trying out some nail art designs. It's a good thing that I have a tumblr now and can use that to post all the pictures I keep taking instead of spamming my twitter feed with them every few days. And now my sister has asked me to do her nails on her wedding day which, uh, no pressure. <.<'' (DID I MENTION THAT MY SISTER AND HER BF ARE GETTING MARRIED THIS FALL AND I'M SUPER HAPPY ABOUT IT? :D)

Mostly I've been doing game day nails though, because if there's one thing that'll help my team win, it's me wearing their colours on my nails, right?

Hockey! )

TV Rec: Person of Interest! <3 )

Persona 4 Arena! )

So that's what's been going on in my life lately. I've also been working on an epic-length podfic project that I'm really excited about, but that'll take a while yet (Ahaha understatement of the year). Let's see if I can get off my ass and write some more updates before it's posting time for that one. ;D
the24thkey: (Default)

1. Timeless by Gail Carriger, last book in the Parasol Protectorate: I'm a bit sad that the series is over, because I just love it so, SO much, but at the same time I was very satisfied by this ending. The story was, as is to be expected, wonderful and wonderfully written, suspenseful and entertaining in itself, but also tied up all of the loose strings for the series as a whole. I liked Professor Lyall's story-line (except for that one part where his back story squicked me out like nobody's business, Jesus), especially the romantic part of it (so much chin-hands and dolphin-noises <3). I liked that Biffy got a bigger part in this installment, not to mention Ivy - and who could've predicted that awesome plot twist? Certainly not me! :D

Alexia and Conall continue to work oh so well for me - I heart them so much, it's ridiculous. <3 Resolving their immortality and potential craziness plot lines was very necessary for ending the series in a way that makes it feel complete, so I'm happy how that turned out.

If you haven't read the book, none of the above will make sense to you, obviously. In that case I'd strongly advise you to go read the Parasol Protectorate right now - it's only 5 books long, and who doesn't love Victorian steam punk with vampires and werewolves and kick-ass female protagonists? :D

2. Team Human by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan: I was looking forward to this book a lot and enjoyed it a lot, too - great characters, an interesting world and a suspenseful plot. Interestingly though, I ended up far more interested in Kit's side of the story. I think this might've had something to do with the protagonist, Mel, and her evolution. Or maybe lack thereof? Obviously she changes her opinion somewhere between the beginning and the end of the book, but I didn't really see the progress. Her attitude towards vampires seems, probably due to the portrayal and other people's views on said vampires, somewhat extreme, if understandable. And the change we see in her after the climax just doesn't ring true to me after seeing her attitude get even worse right up until said climax. Not to mention that I was kind of disappointed that interacting with Kit didn't really do anything to improve Mel's opinion of Vampires. IDK. Does any of this even make sense? I still liked the story, I just felt like there was something missing. And yeah, Kit's story? I'd love to read that.

3. Teen Wolf. So yeah. Remember when that was a show I had absolutely no interest or emotional investment in, aside from Derek/Stiles fic? Good times. I tried watching some of the first season, which left me pretty cold (aside from Stiles, because how could I resist him? Also Lydia, fuck yeah.), and I was fine with that. Except then season 2 came around and I figured 'why not?', only to be COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED with feelings. Dear god.  I suddenly cared about all of the characters, became super invested in Scott/Allison and Lydia/Jackson and the bb!wolves and Derek's face and GAH.
Anyway, I'm loving it, even though the last two episodes of season 2 left me kind of meh. The fandom is pretty fucking amazing and so, so good for me. *________*

To be honest, I think Teen Wolf might be the new SGA, kinda? I mean, probably not in general, it would be a bit early to say that. But it's sort of MY new SGA. You see, SGA was my first big fandom, the one that got me more involved. Back when it still aired, it held most of my fannish interest, in so far that I read almost nothing but SGA fic and had no interest in changing that. Since then I've been pretty...er, poly fannish? multi fannish? Whatever you want to call it. But right now it's like 80% of my fannish investment is taken up by Teen Wolf, and the other 20% are for Hockey and Avengers and occasional nostalgia trips into old fandoms.

4. I don't think that was very coherent, sorry. It's kind of late. Not too late for editing, though! :D I'm currently working on an Avengers podfic that I'm pretty excited about. I really hope it won't take me too long to finish. And I also hope I won't end up convincing myself again that my previous recordings are unusable and I need to re-record EVERYTHING. <.< But yeah. I'm making progress and I'm feeling pretty good about it. :)

So on this fine morning, while I was contemplating why Valentines Day* is called a holiday when we don't even get the day off, and whining about how my grades weren't quite as good as I wanted them to be, my parents were BATTLING FORCES OF NATURE! By which I mean our basement was flooded over night because our neighbours' water line broke (which was totally their fault, yo). AGAIN. Neighbours ruin everything, even when they're barely in the bloody house more often than once or twice a year. *sigh*

By the time I get home on Friday, the electricity and heating will be sorted out, but because the water was about 40 cm high, a lot of appliances (expensive ones, but insurance will take care of that, thank god), food and other things are probably ruined, not to mention that the last time this happened, drying everything out took about three months. /o\

Not cool.

Anyway, back to the fun stuff. Like Phil Coulson/Clint Barton, which is a pairing for which there should be more fic. <3 Reading the ones that are out there has gotten me even more excited for The Avengers! Sadly, I have no fangirls to go watch it with, though, which is going to make the whole experience a bit less fun (but not too much). American superhero comics are just not a very big deal over here, so the people I'm most likely going to drag to the cinema with me, my sister and her bf, have no idea who these people who I'm going to squee over are. <.<

Another fandom I'm currently obsessing about is Hockey RPF, because fandom is apparently kind of a hive mind. Thankfully, you don't need to know anything about Hockey itself to read about emotionally stunted boys in love, otherwise I'd be completely lost. Hockey is not all that popular here either, seeing as we're a football country all the way - but apparently my home city's team is one of the better ones nationally? Who cares, all I know about hockey I know from a children's cartoon about ANTHROPOMORPHIC, HOCKEY-PLAYING, CRIME FIGHTING DUCKS FROM OUTER SPACE.

Ah, Mighty Ducks - better than it sounds. I only just remembered that I used to watch this as a kid. The show is really old, so I couldn't find a lot of pictures to show you, but here you go:

Reference pics and the intro behind the cut )

As you might have guessed, those are not their real names, aside from Mallory, Tanya and Duke L'Orange. Yeah, that's just how awesome this show is, they named one of their characters DUKE L'ORANGE.

The lot of them come from a planet of ice hockey playing ducks (lol) that was invaded by...an evil dinosaur over lord. In order to fight him, they flee to earth (logic? IDK) and become ice hockey superstars by day, vigilantes by night. It's hilarious, trust me.

Mallory is my favourite - she's a weapons and fighting expert, how awesome is that? And the other girl on the team is a genius tech expert. When I think about it, those were really cool female role models!

Duke L'Orange (that name will never stop being funny) used to be a gentleman thief before joining the, uh, 'resistance', for lack of a better term. And the other three guys...honestly, I don't remember anything about them. *shrug* It was a really cool show, though, and it's still quite funny.

I found some episodes on youtube the other day, dubbed in German for extra nostalgia. I swear though, there is this one voice actor who also was the voice of a billion characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender, who must be super rich, because I've heard his voice in every show ever. <.< He's the German voice of House, too.

Ah well, after this nice trip down nostalgia lane, I'm gonna go watch Chihayafuru - maybe the gods of Anime will grant me some Chihaya/Taichi development today?

(Probably not. But a girl can dream. <3)

*Also, is it Valentines Day or Valentine's Day?

So~ everyone else had a nice breakdown with a side of sobbing while watching the finale of Sherlock last night? If those people don't get ALL OF THE AWARDS I will be honestly surprised. <.<

Right then, first up, my thoughts on the second season of BBC's Sherlock! Spoilers ahead!
This is most definitely the squee you're looking for! )

So, in conclusion, this episode reduced me to a sobbing, incoherent mess, but in a good way! :D I can't wait to see what they come up with next season and I really can't wait to read all the fics that fandom is now hopefully working on.

Next up, The Killing, which I watched with my parents over christmas. It was an amazing viewing experience, and nobody should go into this spoiled. My parents, I should add, are the kind of reasonable people who don't do movie/tv marathons very often, but we watched as many episodes a day as we possibly could. Those cliffhangers are pure evil and only get more and more gripping the more the show progresses. The characters are incredibly well-written and especially the scenes with the family are heartbreaking. HoweverSpoiler! )

So, I definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Just make sure you have a lot of free time. <.<

Another show I started watching lately is the Anime Chihayafuru, a shoujo/sports Anime about an old japanese card game called karuta. At first, it sounded like something I wouldn't want to watch, but I was bored and I heard it was very good. Now I'm really glad I gave it a chance, because it really is amazing. The characters and their relationships are wonderfully written (Predictably, at least half of the episodes made me cry already) and the animation is beautiful. I still expect to be disappointed by the outcome of the typical love triangle, because I have never once rooted for the 'right' guy, but there is some hope left in me. Maybe this Anime will finally change it up.

- So~ I got a job. With the department of finances or the tax office or however you call it. I didn't see that coming, to be honest, but it's a pretty good job - I'll get a Bachelor of Law degree at the same time, because we have this dual system here in Germany where you spend a few months at university, then a few months at work, then again at university etc. But dude, they make you sign a shitload of papers before you become a public employee...

Also! Only one more month of school! Awesome! Also also: Flirting is hard when you've never been in a relationship before. *sigh*

- I went to my first LAN Party last week! All we did was play Ragnarok, but it was pretty cool. :D I'm also planning some old-school Anime marathons with the same group of people - Digimon, Dragonball and One Piece from the very beginning. <3

- THE MIDDLEMAN! That show is awesome! I haven't seen all of the episodes yet, but I'm already sad about how few of them there are. It's just such a fun show! Noser is adorable and I want to be Dub-Dub when I grow up. <3

Seriously, at least check out some clips on youtube if you've never heard of it!

- I'm also watching Sekaiichi hatsukoi at the moment, which is an awesome yaoi Anime - not that it hasn't the usual problems of the genre, but it's about publishing Manga! And teenagers in love! Well, only in the past, but whatever. It's pretty cute, and I like the animation.

So I'm sick at the moment. But you know what? I don't care, because my final exams are over, I have the week off and only 3 months of school left. Fuck yeah! :D Now I have time to read and relax and not study.

Also! The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] reena_jenkins recorded a podfic for me as a belated birthday present! Isn't she the sweetest? It's one of my all-time favourite stories from [livejournal.com profile] greyias, who writes hilarious gen SGA-fic, and everyone should check it out.. reena does a wonderful job reading it, of course, and I was very giggly and excited when I saw the post on my flist. I did real life victory arms and everything!

On another positive note: books! I read the first two books in the 'PsyCop' series by Jordan Price and started in on my stack of Discworld novels after seeing the delightful news about not only a Good Omens TV-adaptation (OMG it has so much potential to be gloriously epic, but at the same time so much potential to be life-ruining!), but also a series about the City Watch, which is only like, my favourite group of characters in all of discworld!

Further awesomeness includes the book of poetry by James Tate I'm currently holding in my hands, because James Tate rocks. Here, have my favourite poem by him: )

Today was also the day I could watch the new Hawaii Five-0, which has been gone for too long, as well as new Daily Show, which was also on a one-week vacation.

And last but not least, my copy of 'Persona 4' will arrive soon! In my future I see long hours spent in front of my PS2 and it will be awesome! :D

I've gotten better at remembering my dreams, which I thought was pretty cool, but lately all I'm dreaming about is failing art class exams. That is ridiculous, because if there's one class I'm definitely not failing, it's...well, English, actually, but art class comes next. Maybe I was incepted? <.< *is suspicious*

Last night, I had a bandom dream though, which was fun. I think it was some kind of artsy music video featuring MCR and Brian was there. Hi dream!Brian! :D There was kissing involved, which is not surprising (3 guesses on who was kissing whom and the first two don't count). There also were heavy-duty mustaches, which was surprising. WTF, subconscious?

Speaking of on-again-off-again-due-to-stuff-happening-I-don't-like fandoms, I am very tempted to start reading ontd_skating again. I just miss the ridiculousness! I clicked on a random post yesterday and was laughing for about half an hour because it was so hilarious. I want to catch up on all the new in-jokes and see a billion new macros. Damn you for tempting me in my time of seriousness, time consuming community!

That reminds me, after I went ice-skating with my orchestra people one of the girls let me borrow her graphic tablet! (Yeah, my train of thought sometimes goes off the rails, sorry) I've been trying it out and it's really fun, but also really hard. I'm trying to make something for [livejournal.com profile] reena_jenkins with it, but that might take some time. ^^'' Well, at least the idea is there. <.<

Anyway, I finally started watching The Big Bang Theory and I love it so. Freaking. MUCH. I mean, the opening song is by the Barenaked Ladies, how could the show be anything less than awesome? I heart Leonard and Penny and EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. There are math jokes and physics jokes and nerd jokes and references that I understand (three-dimensional chess FTW!), so basically it's like the xkcd of sitcoms. Kinda? :D

Kinda? :D

A being human trailer just popped up on my facebook! :D I mean, sure, there's not a lot happening, but Annie! I missed Annie! And George and Mitchell! I'm so excited to see what happens after the epicness of the last season finale. When does the new season start, anyway?

Finally I can use that icon again. <3

- The German release date for Scott Pilgrim vs. the world is set for January. This makes me sad. D: Thank god the same wasn't the case with Inception.

- What makes me happy, however, are Twitter shenanigans. Misha Collins shipping himself with Sarah Palin and being his usual, wonderful self (Did you see the Video he made for Random Acts? Hearts in my eyes <3), Joe Flanigan getting a Twitter which he uses mainly for posting about Guiness and ribbing David Hewlett...also, Dog contests for some reason.

- Only 3 weeks of summer break left - where did the other 3 go? I barely got any writing done, but at least I'm almost finished with my applications. Most of the time I play Ace Attorney though, because, as it turns out, the games aren't as hard to find as I thought. :D I'm on the last case of 'Justice for all' at the moment, and on Friday I might be able to get either the original 'Ace Attorney' or 'Apollo Justice'.

- Brian Williams as a guest on the Daily Show! Yay! I love it when he comes on the show. <3

- And a rec to end this post: Negotiating with Terrorists, a wonderful, hilarious Dean/Castiel fic, set after the Supernatural season finale. I listened to the podfic yesterday and was just grinning stupidly the whole time.
