So on this fine morning, while I was contemplating why Valentines Day* is called a holiday when we don't even get the day off, and whining about how my grades weren't quite as good as I wanted them to be, my parents were BATTLING FORCES OF NATURE! By which I mean our basement was flooded over night because our neighbours' water line broke (which was totally their fault, yo). AGAIN. Neighbours ruin everything, even when they're barely in the bloody house more often than once or twice a year. *sigh*
By the time I get home on Friday, the electricity and heating will be sorted out, but because the water was about 40 cm high, a lot of appliances (expensive ones, but insurance will take care of that, thank god), food and other things are probably ruined, not to mention that the last time this happened, drying everything out took about three months. /o\
Not cool.
Anyway, back to the fun stuff. Like Phil Coulson/Clint Barton, which is a pairing for which there should be more fic. <3 Reading the ones that are out there has gotten me even more excited for The Avengers! Sadly, I have no fangirls to go watch it with, though, which is going to make the whole experience a bit less fun (but not too much). American superhero comics are just not a very big deal over here, so the people I'm most likely going to drag to the cinema with me, my sister and her bf, have no idea who these people who I'm going to squee over are. <.<
Another fandom I'm currently obsessing about is Hockey RPF, because fandom is apparently kind of a hive mind. Thankfully, you don't need to know anything about Hockey itself to read about emotionally stunted boys in love, otherwise I'd be completely lost. Hockey is not all that popular here either, seeing as we're a football country all the way - but apparently my home city's team is one of the better ones nationally? Who cares, all I know about hockey I know from a children's cartoon about ANTHROPOMORPHIC, HOCKEY-PLAYING, CRIME FIGHTING DUCKS FROM OUTER SPACE.
Ah, Mighty Ducks - better than it sounds. I only just remembered that I used to watch this as a kid. The show is really old, so I couldn't find a lot of pictures to show you, but here you go:
( Reference pics and the intro behind the cut )
As you might have guessed, those are not their real names, aside from Mallory, Tina and Duke L'Orange. Yeah, that's just how awesome this show is, they named one of their characters DUKE L'ORANGE.
The lot of them come from a planet of ice hockey playing ducks (lol) that was invaded by...an evil dinosaur over lord. In order to fight him, they flee to earth (logic? IDK) and become ice hockey superstars by day, vigilantes by night. It's hilarious, trust me.
Mallory is my favourite - she's a weapons and fighting expert, how awesome is that? And the other girl on the team is a genius tech expert. When I think about it, those were really cool female role models!
Duke L'Orange (that name will never stop being funny) used to be a gentleman thief before joining the, uh, 'resistance', for lack of a better term. And the other three guys...honestly, I don't remember anything about them. *shrug* It was a really cool show, though, and it's still quite funny.
I found some episodes on youtube the other day, dubbed in German for extra nostalgia. I swear though, there is this one voice actor who also was the voice of a billion characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender, who must be super rich, because I've heard his voice in every show ever. <.< He's the German voice of House, too.
Ah well, after this nice trip down nostalgia lane, I'm gonna go watch Chihayafuru - maybe the gods of Anime will grant me some Chihaya/Taichi development today?
(Probably not. But a girl can dream. <3)
*Also, is it Valentines Day or Valentine's Day?
